What is the SAP Content Server? Back to the Top

The SAP Content Server is a stand-alone component / server provided by SAP in which documents of any format can be stored. The documents are typically stored in one or more MaxDB, instances, or the file system. The SAP Content Server is usually run on Windows, but it can also be installed on Unix or Linux OS.

What can I use the SAP Content Server for? Back to the To

You can use the SAP content server to store Data Archiving Files, Print lists, Outgoing Documents, Scanned in Documents (Kofax Capture and the Verbella Kofax Export Connector – SAP is required. (Datasheet)) and everyday file attachments.

How can I use the SAP Content Server to scan documents? Back to the Top

In order to scan in documents, you would need a scanning application with an SAP ArchiveLink interface. Our preference here at Verbella is to use Kofax Capture with the Verbella Kofax Export Connector – SAP. (Datasheet)  Kofax Capture is used to operate the scanner and capture documents, while the export connector is used to integrate with SAP via SAP ArchiveLink and supports all the standard archiving scenarios out of the box.

How long does a typical imaging project using the SAP Content Server take to complete? Back to the Top

It averages about 2-3 weeks. A typical imaging project will require some analysis work in order to gather the document and scanning requirements.  Then the  installation of the SAP Content Server, and Kofax Server/Clients and installation  of a scanner with Kofax VRS.  Finally some SAP configuration is done in order to proto-type document imaging scenario.

Our users are storing attachments using the GOS and storing the files on the SAP Database…..Can I store them on the SAP Content Server?

Yes, this is a very common practice by redirecting the attachments from being stored on the SAP database, to the SAP Content Server.  By doing so you’re ultimately saving space and increasing performance of the SAP system.

What type of Scanners are supported? Can we use our existing Scanner or MFP Device? Back to the Top

In most case any scanner using ISIS drivers could be used, (we recommend and resell Fujitsu scanners).  For lower a lower volume of documents, MFP’s (Multi Functional Printers) could also be used.
