Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What’s the difference between SAP data archiving and content migration?
Data archiving reduces database size by moving transaction data to archive files. Content migration moves documents and attachments between repositories. Together, they deliver both performance and compliance benefits.
Do I need SAP ILM for compliance?
Not always. ILM adds advanced retention and legal hold capabilities. For organizations in highly regulated industries, it’s often a best practice, but Verbella can tailor solutions to your specific requirements.
How does Verbella’s migration toolset compare with SAP’s standard utilities?
Our tools add automation, logging, and error handling beyond SAP’s native utilities, reducing risk and accelerating project timelines.
Do you support hybrid repository environments?
Yes. Verbella supports SAP migrations to on-premises, cloud, and hybrid repositories, including SharePoint, PBS ContentLink, Tungsten CloudDocs, and others.
Do I need SAP Content Server if I use another DMS like SharePoint?
Not necessarily. Verbella helps determine whether to integrate SharePoint or leverage SAP Content Server for optimal compliance and cost efficiency.
Does Document Imaging integrate with SAP Fiori?
Yes — all Verbella connectors support SAP Fiori apps as well as classic SAP GUI transactions.
Can these solutions help with an S/4HANA migration?
Absolutely. Verbella ensures your document repositories, imaging workflows, and archiving strategies are fully S/4HANA-ready.
What capture platforms are supported?
Tungsten Automation (formerly Kofax), ABBYY Vantage, OpenText, and other leading OCR and capture tools — all integrated through Verbella’s V-Link suite.
Will my migration disrupt SAP operations?
No. Migrations are executed in parallel while keeping SAP fully available for business users.
Which repositories are supported?
Verbella supports migrations from OpenText, FileNet, Documentum, and many other SAP-certified repositories.
How do you ensure compliance?
Our solution includes full validation and audit logs, ensuring every document is tracked, verified, and compliant with regulations like GDPR, HIPAA, and SEC requirements.
Do I need to use ILM with this solution?
Not necessarily. ILM may be layered in for advanced retention and legal hold, but it’s not required for standard migrations.
What is the SAP Content Server?
The SAP Content Server is a stand-alone component / server provided by SAP in which documents of any format can be stored. The documents are typically stored in one or more MaxDB, instances, or the file system. The SAP Content Server is usually run on Windows, but it can also be installed on Unix or Linux OS.
What can I use the SAP Content Server for?
You can use the SAP content server to store Data Archiving Files, Print Lists, Outgoing Documents, Scanned in Documents (Tungsten (formerly Kofax) Capture and the Verbella Tungsten Automation Export Connector – SAP is required.
How can I use the SAP Content Server to scan documents?
In order to scan in documents, you would need a scanning application with an SAP ArchiveLink interface. Our preference here at Verbella is to use Tungsten (formerly Kofax) Capture with the Verbella Tungsten Automation Export Connector – SAP. Tungsten Capture is used to operate the scanner and capture documents, while the export connector is used to integrate with SAP via SAP ArchiveLink and supports all the standard archiving scenarios out of the box.
How long does a typical imaging project using the SAP Content Server take to complete?
It averages about 2-3 weeks. A typical imaging project will require some analysis work in order to gather the document and scanning requirements. Then the installation of the SAP Content Server, and Tungsten Automation (formerly Kofax) Server/Clients and installation of a scanner with Tungsten VRS. Finally, some SAP configuration is done in order to proto-type document imaging scenario.
Our users are storing attachments using the GOS and storing the files on the SAP Database. Can I store them on the SAP Content Server?
Yes, this is a very common practice by redirecting the attachments from being stored on the SAP database, to the SAP Content Server. By doing so you’re ultimately saving space and increasing performance of the SAP system.
What type of Scanners are supported? Can we use our existing Scanner or MFP Device?
In most case any scanner using ISIS drivers could be used, we recommend and resell Fujitsu scanners. For lower a lower volume of documents, MFP’s (Multi-Functional Printers) could also be used.
Can you integrate ContentLink/ILM-aware storage?
Yes, PBS ContentLink supports ArchiveLink and WebDAV 3.1 for ILM-aware storage with retention metadata.
Do we need ILM to start?
You can start with classic archiving and layer ILM (retention & legal hold) as policies mature.
Will users still find archived data easily?
Yes, via SAP tools (AIS/DRB/Print Lists) and, with PBS, using familiar transaction codes as if the data were still online.

What is “agentic automation” in UiPath, and why should SAP users care?
Agentic automation is a next-generation automation model from UiPath where AI agents, robots and humans work in orchestration rather than just rule-based bots. In essence, the system uses AI to plan, adapt and act in workflows rather than always having a fixed script. UiPath+2UiPath+2 For SAP customers, this matters because many SAP workflows are complex, involve exceptions, human decisions and large data sets. Agentic automation allows your SAP automation strategy to scale into truly intelligent, adaptable workflows rather than just “click-and-move data.”
In short: you get smarter automation built to evolve alongside your SAP processes.
Does deploying UiPath in a SAP environment require major changes to our SAP landscape?
No — one of the key advantages of UiPath’s SAP integration is that it can augment your existing SAP environment rather than require complete re-engineering. For example, UiPath supports both GUI task automation and API/OData connectors, meaning you can automate current processes while prepping for S/4HANA or cloud migration. UiPath+1 Because UiPath is recognized as an SAP Solution Extension, it aligns with SAP’s architecture and governance model. UiPath, Inc.+1
Therefore, you can accelerate value and ROI without having to rebuild your SAP systems up front.

FlexiCapture relied on templates and rules; Vantage adds AI skills, machine learning, and low-code deployment for greater automation and accuracy.
Can ABBYY Vantage integrate with SAP ECC and S/4HANA?
Absolutely. Verbella provides direct integration through V-Link connectors, APIs, and workflow automation tools.
Can we run both platforms during migration?
Yes. We often design hybrid models where FlexiCapture remains active while Vantage is phased in for key document types.
